Doing Whatever the Day Calls

It’s Friday and the weather has warmed up again. I spent a little extra time in my room after the kids heading to school to organize my stuff but also read and write a bit. That was the last blog post. I’ve been trying to just follow what the Lord puts in front of me each day and I have to say that it is pretty sweet. After the time at home, I went to the Kopps house to use their internet “dongle” so I could send out the blog update.

It is probably good that I couldn’t find the iPhone before I left since it would make internet and email too easy. Now, I only have about 7 numbers in my cell phone and I’m almost shocked when I get a text message. I know my phone at home becomes a leash and also a security blanket. My time here without affordable phone access to friends at home and fairly burdensome email has made the transition to counting on the Lord to truly fill my needs almost automatic. It should be a good foundation to carry forward when I head back home. I think it should be a reminder to not waste opportunities with friends and spending time with people.

Once I sent the blog update and a quick email (which required me to stand in the corner of the house holding my laptop while I stood and pointed in just the right direction) I decided to go help out at the school for a little while. I timed it so the kids were coming in from break when I showed up. I sat in the back and listening to Scott read a chapter of Heidi to the students. There is only one girl in the class but they have already been through all the “boyish” books. While the kids worked on writing a story about a make believe country, I helped a couple boys with some math skills. I am not a teacher but I can understand how someone could enjoy it. The moment you see the light come on when a kid is figuring something out is pretty awesome. It is amazing to observe what a little encouragement will do for a kid. I didn’t work any miracles (God has the handle on those) but it was still good. I helped some of the kids understand telling time and the difference between the big and little hand, more of those light bulb moments. We’ll have to wait and see if it is still in their heads next week.

I came back to the Kopps house to write another update and also help out Peter. I’ve done some stapling and collating so he is ready for an upcoming class. Tomorrow, Saturday, is the Money Matters 3 class. We will head into town tonight and stay at the conference center tonight and tomorrow then head to church Sunday morning before heading back to the farm. It is a follow up to the regular Money Matters class which is a basic, biblical financial principles class. This class will be folks that have been to the first class and taking things to the next level. They will be presenting simple investment ideas, agriculture opportunities and, hopefully, some discussion between the participants on what is working for them. The classes seem to be a good step to helping to break the “spend everything as it comes in” mentality. The irony: the same class with a couple adjustments is what most people in the Western world need too.

I’m off to lunch with another one of the families here on the farm. I went there last night to listen to the kids read which is fun for me and they can’t get enough. I was spoiled with some fried “cakes” and tea last night. They were SO good. Basically, they are sweet chunks of dough that are fried much like donuts. I could have easily eaten them until I passed out. I stopped though since I hadn’t had dinner yet. Haha.

I’m listening to my Africa playlist on shuffle:
Amazing Grace by Dropkick Murphys
The Earth Is Yours, Beautiful Things, You Have Me by Gungor
Battle, Loving You Is Easy, Starry Night, I’m Gonna Sing, 7x70 by Chris August
Reckoning Day, Death In His Grave, How He Loves by John Mark Mcmillan
Can you tell I am getting a lot of listening out of the CDs I bought the day before I left?
